The Kingdom’s Critical Mission: Live as Disciples, Part 1

Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Series: The Kingdom's Critical Mission Topic: Discipleship Passage: Matthew 10:24–39

What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus Christ? Is it a life of ease, material prosperity, and comfort? It is true that we have abundant spiritual riches and incomparable joys in Christ, but make no mistake- there is significant cost to discipleship. Christ Himself was called a demoniac and persecuted unto death, and He warned us that we should not expect any different treatment from the world. Even so, there is no cause for fear. Why? First, God knows all things, including the secrets of men. In His perfect timing all of their evil deeds and plans will be exposed. Second, we bring God’s message, not our own. His wisdom and strength are perfect and infinite, and we can confidently rely on both. Third, God’s power is unmatched, so whom should we fear, mere man who can only kill the body, or God who has power over even the soul? Finally, God cares for us and knows us intimately. Not a sparrow falls to the ground apart from His will, and how much more valuable are we?
