The Heart and Habit of Prayer in Times of Trial

Pastor: Pastor Eric Borgstrom Series: Special Topic Topic: Prayer Passage: James 1:5–8

The purpose of trials is to produce endurance, strengthening our faith by teaching us greater reliance upon the Lord. But what if we lack clarity on how to move forward, or are struggling to express the joy that God commands? This is the time to turn to God and ask for wisdom. We must learn to cultivate the habit of earnest prayer, seeking God and His will with the right heart and motivation. We must pray for clarity and insight so that we will respond as we ought, confess our doubting heart to God, and find hope in a renewed mind rather than comfortable circumstances. We must ask for wisdom in expectant faith, freely and humbly acknowledging our great need, expressing gratitude for His genereous and sure provision, and praising Him for the same. And we must resolve to trust Him wholeheartedly, coming to God as a trusting child to his beloved Father. When we do, we will find that our Father is kind and gracious, ready to hear our requests, giving to us liberally and without reproach, and answering all of our petitions according to His perfect will.
