Responding to Christ: Criticism

Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Series: Responding to Christ Topic: Unbelief Passage: Matthew 11:16–19

Doubting is never profitable, but God in His grace does accommodate us in our weakness so that we may learn to trust Him fully. We see this in the life of Gideon when God called him to lead Israel, and the apostle Peter when Jesus called him to get out of the boat and onto the water. But there is a more sinister response that is actually an expression of evil, and that is the one who responds to Christ and His message with criticism. This is the person who finds Christ’s demands on their life to be unreasonable, who place their own desires above the commands of the Lord, and then find fault with God when He does not meet those desires. How should we respond when we encounter criticism for proclaiming the truth? Remember that only Christ’s judgment matters, that we are to fear God rather than man, and to do His will rather than our own. Then pray for those who persecute you and leave the results to God, knowing that time and truth will vindicate you.
