Characteristics of Godly Living: Warring Against Sin
Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Series: Characteristics of Godly Living Topic: Spiritual warfare Passage: 1 Peter 2:11–12
What does it look like to believe? Many people who call themselves Christians don’t live in a manner that accords with their profession of faith. Believers are committed to Christ, and are called to a life of warfare. Our battle is not against people or governments, but with indwelling sin and spiritual forces, and we wage war by accurately handling the truth and actively using it to counter sin and lies. How can we be faithful soldiers in this fight? Know your rank. We are aliens and strangers in this world, passing through as we make our way to our heavenly home. Enjoy those things that are pure and good, but don’t set your heart on temporary earthly treasures. Avoid the enemy. Stay clear of sinful influences that can attack your spiritual life, and put to death those lusts and fleshly passions that rob you of the joy of your salvation. Finally, be excellent examples. Though you may be mocked and slandered, ultimately your obedience and love will result in glory given to God at the return of Jesus Christ.
