A Model Church

Pastor: Pastor Marc Wragg Series: special service Topic: Gratitude Passage: 1 Thessalonians 1:1–10

We make our plans and we do our work, yet the Lord providentially does as He wills. Sometimes the results meet our expectations, and other times God turns our path in directions we never could have imagined. How do we recognize God’s unexpected work? The work of God is evidenced as it conforms to His will, glorifying Him by achieving His purposes and demonstrating His character. It advances His gospel message, the necessity of believing Christ and His gospel by faith, and our responsibility to submit our lives wholly to Him. And it unfailingly bears the marks of His power, producing a lasting testimony through hearts which are fully convinced of the truth and which evidence genuine spiritual transformation. What is the fruit of His work, and what must our response be? The fruit is born out in faithful servants whose own labors are done selflessly for the sake of love, and who are emboldened by a confident hope in God’s eternal purposes. The only appropriate response is thankfulness, praising God alone for the work that only He can do.
